This Holiday Season, Your Gift Can Make a Meaningful Difference
Introduction
The Walter Payton Liver Center at UI Health is named for the beloved two-time NFL Player of the Year and MVP who led the 1985 Bears to a Super Bowl title.
In 1999, it was revealed that Walter had been diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare liver disease more commonly known as PSC. With the courage and character that defined his life, Walter fought his illness while bringing new attention to two critical needs: (1) medical research to better understand liver diseases and (2) organ donations.
Now it’s our turn to carry the ball. The Walter Payton Liver Center is dedicated to delivering outstanding and compassionate patient care by integrating the most advanced research, medical care, and surgical treatment available for those with liver disease. Our mission is to save lives.
As part of UI Health — the academic health enterprise of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) — the Center draws on the expertise of faculty and researchers from throughout the College of Medicine and UIC’s health sciences colleges to forge new discoveries through research and provide exceptional care for patients affected by liver disease. We have assembled a multidisciplinary team of the world’s best physicians, transplant surgeons, hepatologists, gastroenterologists, research scientists, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, psychologists, and dieticians, and equipped them with the state-of-the-art equipment they need to provide patients with the most advanced medical and surgical treatment available in the world — right here in Chicago.
