New UIC GlobalBMT Partnership

Image of Uganda Delegates and UIC Faculty

The UIC GlobalBMT program led by DOM faculty member, Damiano Rondelli, MD, started a new partnership with the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) in Kampala, Uganda, with the goal of supporting the establishment of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) in the country. The leadership of UCI visited UIC on May 28-29, including the Executive Director, Dr. Orem, and 4 other delegates. They were welcomed by the Head of the Department of Medicine Dr. Rachel Caskey, the Dean of the COM and CEO of UI Health Hospital Dr. Mark Rosenblatt, and by the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Dr. Robert Barish (in the photo with the Ugandan delegation). A roadmap towards starting BMT in Uganda was drafted, and the GlobalBMT Training Program will host physicians from Uganda starting in September.
