IMARA stands for Informed, Motivated, Aware, and Responsible about AIDS. IMARA is an HIV prevention program featuring workshops aimed at helping African American teenagers and their female caregivers/mothers work together to address risk behavior, improve parent-teen communication about sex and other topics, develop affect management skills, practice conflict resolution, and incorporate issues of gender, power, and ethnic pride. The workshops take place over the course of two consecutive Saturdays each month at the COIP South Side Field Station.
