About
Dr. Samantha Hay is an emergency physician and public health researcher whose work centers on social emergency medicine, health policy, and advocacy for vulnerable populations. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was part of the Global Health Track, and later pursued advanced training as a Health Policy and Social Emergency Medicine Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School. She also earned her Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and is a New World Social Innovation Cheng Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating interventions addressing social determinants of health and homelessness through innovation in emergency department systems and policy design.

Research Currently in Progress
Dr. Hay’s current research explores the role of emergency departments in addressing social determinants of health and housing insecurity. Her work includes assessing patient and provider perceptions of social risk screening, developing interventions that connect patients to community-based resources, and evaluating outcomes related to homelessness prevention and social support systems. She is also involved in policy and systems-level research aimed at integrating public health frameworks into emergency care delivery through cross-sector collaboration and innovation.
