Stay Tuned for 2017 Research Training and Career Development Program (RTCP) Application Information

Program Overview:

The Research Training and Career Development Program (RTCP) is part of the University of Illinois at Chicago Health Professions Navigator. This program is designed for highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in exploring potential careers in the health sciences, and to familiarize them with biomedical research and practice opportunities. Participants will be exposed to issues related to health disparities and health equity, and the impact these have on patient care, health promotion, and prevention.

The Research Training and Career Development Program (RTCP) is a collaboration with the College of Medicine, the School of Public Health, the College of Dentistry, the Center for Clinical Translational Science, and the UIC Bridges to Baccalaureate Program.  

The program includes:

• Eight-week (8) summer research and practice experience under the mentorship of a UIC faculty member or researcher
• Three-day (3) orientation of training and certification to enhance professional skills and to be acclimated to a research/practice setting
• Workshops and activities that foster longitudinal mentorship and professional development
• End of program presentation
• A stipend and/or University housing for those who may need summer housing (please note that housing fees will be deducted from individual stipends)

 Eligibility:

• Undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in the health sciences are eligible to apply to and participate in RTCP.
• Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to participate in this program.

Program Dates and Deadlines:

• Application and Letter of Recommendation deadline: 2017 deadline to be determined
• Selection of Finalists: 2017 date to be determined
• Start of Summer Program: 2017 date to be determined
• End of Summer Program/Participant Presentations: 2017 date to be determined
