Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry – JBVA

PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Students must have completed their M3 Core Clerkship in Psychiatry.

PURPOSE:
The object of this elective is to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments and treatment to veterans on the medical and surgical services.

COMPETENCIES:
Medical students will gain proficiency in mental status and cognitive exam administration, treating delirium, evaluating for capacity, and managing alcohol and drug use/withdrawal. Students will also learn to diagnose and treat neurocognitive disorders and accompanying behavioral disturbances.

INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES:
The student will be expected to see consults, participate in daily rounds, write notes, interact with medical/surgical teams, and can act as senior student to M3s rotating on the service

ASSESSMENT:
Through daily supervision provided by Dr. Sanders
