The University of Illinois College of Medicine celebrates its tradition of excellence through the recognition of individuals who have significantly supported the mission of the college.
Dr. Richard Novak, professor of medicine, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine, and director of the University Community Care Network at UIC was awarded the Pioneer in Medicine Award. Dr. Novak has been a leader in HIV research and treatment for over 30 years. He was involved in the initial drug trials using AZT to treat patients with AIDS. He has been at the forefront of HIV vaccine and prevention trials, establishing a UIC clinical research site that has conducted many federal research studies.
On Friday, November 15, 2019 the University of Illinois College of Medicine celebrated its distinguished award winners. The 2019 Illinois Medicine Awards were presented to five influential honorees – each of whom have contributed to the field of medicine or to the College of Medicine to advance its mission.
