Dr. Kaur is the Program Director of Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at UIC-COM at Chicago as well as the Medical Director of the Palliative Care team at University of Illinois Hospital. She specializes in the care of older adults, with an emphasis on Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment. Her clinical practice is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of Geriatric Syndromes like dementia, depression and other mood disorders, frailty, falls, dizziness, urinary incontinence and other chronic diseases. She has a strong interest in patient and caregiver education regarding health issues and treatment plans and helps patients and families make decisions for palliative or hospice care when transition needed. She is actively engaged in teaching fellows, residents and students, enhancing their knowledge of not only primary care, but also palliative care & advance care planning. She is proficient in English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. Dr. Kaur has helped create a telehealth protocol for the Geriatric Telehealth Clinic at Jesse Brown VA Hospital. In 2013 and 2014, she organized the Geriatric Update & Board Review Courses for the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research interests include creating methods to lessen health disparities in hospice and palliative care as well as fall prevention in older adults to promote personal wellness and functional independence.

Aging and Mixed Perturbation Training to Reduce Falls in Locomotion
This grant examines the effect of a single perturbation type training (slip or trip) when encountering the opposing perturbation unexpectedly in older adults during walking, and subsequently examines the effect of combined slip and trip training on laboratory-induced and longer-term fall risk. Role: Co-investigator. This project is funded by a NIH R01.
Perturbation training for enhancing stability and limb support control for fall-risk reduction among stroke survivors
This project examines the ability of chronic stroke survivors to acquire, generalize and retain adaptations to slip-perturbation training while also exploring translation of this paradigm to the sub-acute population. Role: Data Safety Monitoring Board Member. This project is funded by a NIH R01.
