Dr. Shafi is board certified in both neurology & vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and currently serves as an assistant professor here in the UIC Department of Neurology & Rehabilitation.
Dr. Shafi received her medical degree from Baqai Medical University in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her internship in internal medicine and residency in neurology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical College, where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Shafi completed a fellowship in vascular neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She is board-certified in Neurology and Vascular Neurology.

Dr. Shafi specializes in the treatment of stroke and cerebrovascular disease. Her primary research interests are acute stroke and treatment with thrombolytic agents, stroke prevention and cerebrovascular disease in women.
