Residency and Medical Education
Born in Chicago and raised in Puerto Rico where I did all of my medical training, I returned to Chicago in 1999 to fulfill a two year commitment as a Scholar of the National Health Service Corps at Mile Square Health Center. I chose UIC-Mile Square due to my passion of serving the underserved and my desire to teach medical students and residents.
I became a family physician because I wanted to “specialize in people”; I enjoy caring for patients along their entire life spectrum and of all walks of life. I love not only taking care of a pregnant woman and delivering their baby, but also caring for their newborn throughout their lifespan. I believe everyone deserves access to high quality, culturally sensitive and compassionate medical care regardless of their social status, immigration status or ability to pay.
In addition to seeing my patients at the Mile Square Clinic at Back of the Yards, I supervise residents at Mile Square Main. I have additional expertise in Maternity Care and Women’s Health and enjoy teaching residents Women’s Health procedures during their training. I also provide Family Centered Maternity Care and in-patient care at Labor and Delivery where we care for and deliver our own patients.
Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my lovely twins, Giancarlo and Angelena, and traveling and going on family vacations when time allows.
