I was raised in a small town in South Carolina by Sichuanese immigrant parents. (My last name is pronounced LOH-UH in Mandarin tone 3). I eventually graduated from Vanderbilt University, I spent 3 years in Los Angeles conducting diabetes research and dancing. In a convoluted way, I realized my passion was within an intersection of science and humanities, in other words medicine. At med school, I met new patients and loved ones who led me to exploring mental health and immigrant health literacy. I chose FM, so I could be at the frontline of these issues. I fell in love with the UIC family because of our shared commitment to giving people from all walks of life comprehensive and sensitive care.

Outside of work, I am lucky to dance and judge competitive Bhangra, a Punjabi folk dance. I captained Duniya De Rang, a national collaboration team, and perform with Ministry of Bhangra here in Chicago. I’m excited to meet the Chicago Punjabi community! I also love taking adult ballet classes.
