Call Schedule and Night/Weekend Schedule
- The only call, non-shift work responsibilities are for IR residents who are on the IR service
- Buddy shift system with on-site senior beginning in October allowing first years to participate in ED shifts. The shifts run from 5-8 pm on weekdays, averaging 1-2 shifts a month; as well as, weekend shift from 8am-8pm completing 1 weekend a month from March-June.
- Night float system
- One resident covers nights at UIH.
- Overnight shift varies depending on level of training. Night float is taken a week at a time, with the shift running from 8pm-8am. The current breakdown for the night float schedule includes:
- 6 weeks of night float R2 year
- 3-4 weeks of night float R3 year
- 3-4 weeks of night float R4 year
- Weekend shift: our weekend shift runs from 8am-8pm and also varies depending on level of training.
- 6 weekends R2 year
- 3-4 weekends R3 year
- 3-4 weekends R4 year
- No overnight Attendings at UIH
- Attendings available for consultation via phone at UIH.
- Attending read out sessions in the morning with direct feedback

Breast Imaging/Mammography
UI Health offers a full range of the breast imaging services, including screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, breast biopsy, breast MRI, and MRI-guided breast biopsy.
Interventional Radiology
Interventional radiologists replace traditional surgery with minimally invasive techniques and small instruments, using imaging technology to dramatically reduce the pain, risk, and recovery time for patients with conditions like varicose veins and uterine fibroids.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Radiology at UI Health is home to 3T and 9.4T MRIs, which provide incredible resolution, image quality, and scan time that result in to improve patients’ MRI experience.
Nuclear Medicine / PET CT
Nuclear imaging is a non-invasive procedure used to determine the presence and extent of most cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular disease.
Body Imaging
Body Imaging at UI Health covers the services including Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Ultrasound
UI Health radiologists are specially trained in ultrasound imaging, with a focus in the area of pediatric ultrasound. We use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, including 4D ultrasound, for imaging that helps in the diagnosis and treatment of many medical conditions.
