Goals of Pathway

To provide individualized educational opportunities for residents interested in a career in pediatric hospital medicine. The PHM track may also benefit those residents interested in PICU, emergency medicine and procedure-oriented subspecialties

Eligibility

  • Selection Requirements: C.V. and one page essay on why you are interested in your post-residency specialty choice (PHM, cardiology, PICU etc)
  • Track application due March of intern year

Description of Program

The PHM track consists of various elective requirements and scholarly expectations in areas relevant to the pediatric inpatient setting.

Required Inpatient/ICU Experiences

  • Electives (5 of the following):
    • Advocate PICU rotation (required)
    • Research (required)
    • Hospital Medicine Subspecialty Rotation (required)
    • Anesthesiology/Sedation
    • Pediatric Surgery
    • Simulation
    • NICU
    • Ped Subspecialty: ID, pulmonology, cardiology, neurology

Required Scholarly Activities

  • Present at UIC PHM Journal Club (2 times per year)
  • Attend the monthly UIC PHM Journal club when available (not required)
  • Join the AAP SOHM Listserve
  • Attend one Pediatric Hospital Medicine Annual Conference
  • Scholarly Project
    • Longitudinal project
    • Submit an abstract to regional/ national conference
  • Meet quarterly with track director and participants
