Otolaryngology residents at UIC take at-home call.  Call schedules differ for junior, senior and chief residents, and may also vary depending on rotation. PGY2s are responsible for call at UIC two to three days per week and one to two weekends per month. A senior resident and a faculty member are also available on second and third call at all times. The call schedule is determined by the residents and approved by the program coordinator. There is also a consult resident who is on-call for inpatient consults Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Residents also receive four weeks paid vacation.

Chicago Living

Chicago is the most central and most accessible city in the country. UIC is easily accessible by car, bus and train . The University is also within driving distance of many historical neighborhoods including China Town, Little Italy and Chicago’s Historic Pilsen neighborhood.

Chicago weather tends to be very unpredictable which can be both exciting and frustrating. Being centrally located, Chicagoans get to experience all four seasons.

Many residents choose to live in the downtown area. UIC is conveniently located near the I-94 and the 290 expressways, so residents may also choose to live in nearby suburban communities.
