Application and Selection Process
Our program fills 3 residency positions each year. Applicants seeking a PGY-1 Categorical position starting June 24, 2020 will need to apply through ERAS. All 3 positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
When selecting an applicant for an interview, the Resident Recruitment Committee will evaluate the strength of your application with all of its components, including:
The dean’s letter (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
Strong letters of recommendation
Third-year Core Clerkship grades
USMLE Step 1 Score (Step 2 and CSA not required for consideration)
The program will review applications after October 1, and interview invitations will be extended by mid-October. Selected applicants will receive an email invitation from Thalamus. We interview between 20-22 applicants on three separate interview days.
Interview Day Planning
We have scheduled three interview dates for the 2019-2020 recruitment cycle:

We have created an interview day with the goal of us getting to know each other. You will interview and meet most of our faculty and have plenty of time to ask our residents questions. The Department of Otolaryngology Administrative Office is located at 1855 W. Taylor Street, 2 nd Floor, Suite 2.42.
If you plan to drive to the interview, you will need to park in the Wood Street Parking garage, 1100 South Wood Street. The Department will provide a coupon to pay for your parking. We are also conveniently located near the Pink Line Polk stop.
The interview day typically starts at 8:30am and ends at 3:30pm. While applicants are enjoying their breakfast, the Chair will give a presentation. Afterwards, the applicants will split into two groups, with one group interviewing and the other group interacting with the residents (tour, presentation, open forum). Both groups will come together for lunch, and afterwards, the groups will switch to interview with faculty or interacting with the residents.
There will be a reception scheduled for every interview date. The reception is hosted by just the residents and allows the applicants another venue to ask questions and get a better feel for the social aspect of the program. Applicants scheduled for December 6 or 7 will attend the same reception on Friday, December 6. Applicants scheduled for January 6 will attend a reception on Sunday, January 5.
