Orthopaedics Residency Overview

Clinical training

Clinical training in the Orthopedic Surgery Residency covers all subspecialty areas of orthopedics, including:

  • Adult reconstruction and its subdivisions
  • Foot surgery
  • Hand surgery
  • Microvascular surgery
  • Orthopedic oncology
  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Pediatric orthopedics
  • Spine surgery
  • Sports medicine

Residents have ample opportunity to cover various professional, college, and high school athletic events as well as various other events such as performances and concerts. Our residents frequently have the opportunity to provide medical coverage for music performances. Past residents have covered artists like Madonna, Motley Crue, and Lionel Richie to name a few. Our residents provide coverage for the UIC Division I Athletes and frequently provide medical coverage for the Joffrey Ballet, WNBA Sky Team, and local high schools. Residents are compensated for covering local high school sports with $150 being added to their educational fund.

Duty Hours

The UIC Department of Orthopaedics strictly adheres to the ACGME work hour rules.
