With a primary appointment at the Edward Hines, Jr. Veteran’s Affairs Hospital and as a consultant to the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Dr. Stelmack devotes much of her research agenda to supporting the vision needs of our nation’s veterans. She established the Low Vision Service at UIC to provide rehabilitation services to patients with permanent vision loss, substantially enhancing their performance of daily activities and independence. She is a highly productive scholar and has been recognized with the Low Vision Rehabilitation Vision Care Award from the American Optometric Association and the William Feinbloom Award from the American Academy of Optometry. She joined the department faculty in 1996.
