Welcome from the Center Director

This is an exciting time for women health in general and reproductive health in particular! With major durable scientific advancement in fields such developmental epigenetics, stem cell biology, computational biology, precision medicine and global bioinformatics, one must be optimistic about the positive impact this will have to understand and then combat challenging female reproductive disorders such as Uterine Fibroids.

In response, we have established the University of Illinois Uterine Fibroids Research Center (UniFi). Scientists from across the University of Illinois will coalesce through our new Center. We also are actively engaging our local and state side communities as we strongly believe that engaging patients is crucial to improving the translational research process. Our ultimate goal is to further our understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of Uterine Fibroids, eradicate the health disparity associated with this disease and to improve the health of our populations and communities by advancing awareness and knowledge about cutting-edge information about this disease and its major negative impact on health and quality of life.

UniFi will draw on University of Illinois faculty and scientists from numerous disciplines.  It is our intent to create new knowledge and to develop and enhance information dissemination that public health organizations and patient advocacy groups can apply to wellness and health improvement programs targeted at communities and special needs patient populations especially women of color who suffer a high prevalence of uterine fibroids.
