Dr. Al-Hendy received his medical degree from Zagazig University, Benha, Egypt. He completed his PhD in Molecular Medicine from University of Turku, Turku, Finland; followed by post-doctoral fellowship in clinical molecular genetics at McGill University, Montreal, Canada; followed by residency in OB/Gyn at Royal University Hospital, Sasketchwan, Canada. Dr. Al-Hendy is board certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Al-Hendy held faculty positions at various academic institutions in the US prior to joining UIC. He specializes in benign gynecologic disorders. He is internationally recognized for this research and expertise on treatment of uterine fibroids. Dr. Al-Hendy is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study risk factors for women with uterine fibroids, and non-surgical therapeutic treatment options.
