Labor and Delivery Rotation

Learning objectives:

  1. Process and conduct of normal and abnormal labor
  2. Underlying physiology and pathophysiology and how it affects labor and delivery
  3. Technical procedures of speculum exam/ cervical exam/ episiotomy and repair/ delivery of the baby
  4. Common postpartum problems, their evaluation and documentation (note writing)
  5. Clinical professionalism – patient comes first, support your coworkers, know what you are doing.

    Gynecology Rotation

    Learning objectives:

      1. Physiology and pathophysiology of gynecologic problems amenable to surgical solution
      2. Understand rationale for surgical therapy, consent issues, alternative managment
      3. Conduct in the O.R. and technical aspects of handling of tissue, suturing and tying
      4. Post operative routine care, postoperative complications and their treatment
      5. Complications of early pregnancy
  6. Clinical professionalism – patient comes first, support your coworkers, know what you are doing

    CLINCS/ Antepartum Rotation

    Learning objectives:

    1. Understand antepartum care of normal ob patients and those with medical or fetal complications
    2. Assess risk level of pregnancy, interpret tests of maternal condition and of fetal well-being
    3. Understand manifestations of common gynecologic pathology, methods of evaluation, therapeutic options – medical and surgical
    4. Problem oriented history and focused physical exam
    5. Case presentation – preparation and communication
    6. Negotiate the computerized prenatal database, MARS
