Illinois Stroke Institute
Welcome to the Illinois Stroke Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Neurosurgery. Our premier multi-disciplinary program treats specialty neurovascular problems including hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, vertebro-basilar insufficiency (VBI), carotid and intra-cranial stenosis, Moya-Moya, vascular malformations (AVM’s, fistula’s and angiomas) and complex cerebral aneurysms.
We work closely with our referring physicians who send their patients to our Institute for prompt neurosurgical evaluation and surgical and endovascular treatments.
In addition to providing advanced imaging technology and neurovascular physician experts, we make it a priority to give personalized concierge services to the patient and their loved ones through the Illinois Stroke Institute. Consultations and diagnostic assessments are done over 1-2 days, which allows for prompt diagnosis and initiation of treatment. Patient cases are discussed in a bi-weekly multi-disciplinary conference with our colleagues in Radiology and Stroke Neurology. This provides our patients with a consensus-based recommendation from experts in the field which is then communicated to your referring physicians.
Our team understands having a stroke and the referral to a large medical center can be stressful and overwhelming, however we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care so as to make your experience convenient, comfortable and informative.
Patients living outside a 40 mile radius from the Medical Center or with special needs are offered complimentary accommodations during their work-up.
We are located in the Illinois Medical District, immediately southwest of downtown Chicago, easily accessible from the Interstate 290, Ashland/Paulina Exit and the CTA. We are also within walking distance to the historic Taylor Street.
