Biographical Info

After finishing her medical education and clinical training in China, Dr. Song received her PhD in Immunology from Kyushu University, Japan. She was trained as an advanced postdoctoral fellow in the National MS Society at The Ohio State University where she was interested in immunomodulation and immunothereapy in MS and its animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomylelitis (EAE). She previously held a joint appointment as an assistant professor in both the Department of Neurology and Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics at Wayne State University. In addition, it was here where she joined forces with the newly formed ALS Clinical and Research Center with a goal of developing a better molecular and cellular understanding as well as targeted therapeutics in ALS.

Dr. Song has been involved as a principal investigator or co-investigator in the National MS Society, NIH, DoD, and Teva Pharmaceutical industries as well as the Hiller ALS Center and the Nelson Alzheimer’s disease research (awarded by Wayne State University School of Medicine) studies and has expertise in neuroimmunological methods and research design. Presently, she is working on a funded program by the ALS Therapy Alliance that determines the effects of a NRG1 antagonist (HBD-S-H4) on ALS-SOD1 mice disease progression and survival. Our optimal goal is to develop a new drug that has the potential to treat ALS patients.

Clinical Specialties:

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Research Interests:

Dr. Song’s focus of research is in immunomodulation, immunotherapy, molecular signal pathways, and targeted therapeutics in human neurological disorder diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) as well as their animal models.
