Research
The Division houses a variety of outstanding programs, such as for solid tumors and hematological malignancies that provide patients with the most-up-to-date treatment, as well as offers new experimental therapies through innovative clinical trials for patients who may have more advanced disease, thanks to a Phase 1 trial-Oncology program.

Patient Care
Patient care for Hematology and Oncology patients is provided in a state-of-the-art inpatient facility on the 8th floor of UI Hospital. This includes a modern BMT Unit. Outpatient care of Hematology and Oncology patient in the Suite 1E of the OCC building, where multidisciplinary clinics are also run by medical oncologists, surgeons and radiation oncologists.

Bone Marrow Transplantation
Blood & Marrow Transplant Program at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System is well known throughout the Chicago region for its expertise in blood and marrow transplantation. Treating a wide variety of hematological malignancies and other blood abnormalities, our BMT Program also conducts leading-edge translational research to develop innovative strategies for improving the outcomes of these transplants.

Head & Neck Cancer Program
In collaboration with otolaryngology, this is a multidisciplinary program including radiation oncology, medical oncologists, neuro radiologists, pathologists, and speech pathologists.

Sickle Cell Disease Program
The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System was the first center outside of the NIH to offer to appropriate patients the potentially curative approach of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This program is nationally recognized and remains at the cutting edge of patient care and research.

Breast Cancer Program
A new collaboration between the department heads of Medicine and Surgery led to the establishment of a new Breast Cancer Program under the leadership of Dr. Kent Hoskins (Hematology/Oncology). The program has grown into a comprehensive research and clinical unit and in 2015 achieved accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), part of the American College of Surgeons.
