Speaker photo: Khiara M Bridges, JD, PhD, Professor @BerkeleyLaw “Expecting Inequity: Race, Class, and Reproductive Justice” Mar 8, 4-5:30PM CST Register: https://irrpp.uic.edu/events/begando Studies across a range of measures of wellbeing show that class privilege does not necessarily immunize racial minorities from structures & processes that produce excess morbidity & mortality on people, communities & populations without racial privilege. These facts invite consideration of the complex relationship between race & class in the US. They invite a theorization of simultaneous inclusion/exclusion that characterizes class-privileged racial minorities. In this talk, Dr Bridges will discuss her plan to write an ethnography of the fraught reproduction of middle- & upper-class black women in the US. The ethnography will interrogate both how class privilege affects the experience of race in the US as well as how race impacts the experience of class privilege. @irrppuic @uicdme
