Biographical Info

Kari Gali is a clinician, mother, wife, and patient advocate. She received her Doctor of Nursing practice in 2014 and Master of Science in nursing in 1997. After completing a two-year national quality improvement program in 2015 as a VA Quality Scholar, she participated in a multisite quality improvement program to minimize nonurgent emergency department visits. She also facilitated the development of a resident quality improvement coaching toolkit, which is in continued use in interprofessional resident training. Her current position is in distance health where she is practicing telemedicine, designing population health programs integrating digital tools, and directing quality in distance health. Gali has partnered with the clinic’s Office of Patient Experience at every turn while designing population programs for both acute and chronic illnesses. The programs are codesigned with the clinic’s Healthcare Partners Council.
Gali is a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Illinois-Chicago in the Patient Safety Leadership program. She is a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) ambassador and a reviewer for PCORI and Health Resources and Services Administration. At the American Academy of Pediatrics, she serves as a QI consultant facilitating QI integration into multiple projects. Her interests are quality improvement; patient-provider communication; and interprofessional team communication with a focus on shared decision making, patient education, and behavioral change.
