Dr. Zeidman is originally from Chicagoland, and graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University, followed by residency in Neurology at Northwestern University and fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Rush University Medical Center. He is board-certified in Neurology and in Clinical Neurophysiology, both from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) since 2009 and an elected fellow of the AAN (FAAN) since 2016.
Since 2010, Dr. Zeidman has conducted three IRB approved studies on electromyographic (EMG) diagnosis of mild carpal tunnel syndrome, grading system of carpal tunnel syndrome with the combined sensory index, and grading system of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow. All of these studies have been presented at the annual American Academy of Neurology meeting; and two have been published in Muscle and Nerve or the Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease. He currently also is engaged in IRB approved projects on neuropathy epidemiology and in diagnostic techniques for small-fiber neuropathy. Dr. Zeidman is also very interested in the history and ethics of neurology, especially during World War II, and has published numerous articles on the ethical issues involved in that era that have an impact on modern day neurology. In addition to being neuro-history Associate Editor for the Journal of Child Neurology Dr. Zeidman has taught UIC undergraduates and medical students about ethical and historical issues in the neurosciences and was twice awarded the UIC International Development Fund in 2011 and 2014 for international collaborations regarding neurosciences in World War II. He has also been awarded the Outstanding Article Award by the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences and a Rockefeller Archive Center Grant-in-Aid for his research on this topic, both in 2015.
Dr. Zeidman’s focus of research is in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral and entrapment neuropathies by EMG and other modalities. He has presented or published multiple papers on EMG diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar neuropathy at the elbow. He plans more research on the diagnosis of peripheral nerve disorders, and currently has IRB-approved projects under way or submissions in progress. He is also interested in the history and ethics of neurology, and has published or presented multiple papers on the topic, and is working on a book.
