Research and Teaching Interests: With funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ), Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Department of Defense (DOD), Dr. Valenta’s research and teaching focus on social and organizational issues related to health technology, including the role information systems play in patient safety. She was a consulting faculty member for the AHRQ-funded grant entitled “The Seven Pillars: Crossing the Patient Safety-Medical Liability Chasm”. The purpose of this AHRQ-funded project was to evaluate the impact of the “Seven Pillars” – a comprehensive response to patient harm that links effective and honest communication with improvements in patient safety and reducing medical liability risk.
