  • Research and Teaching Interests: Nicole’s research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of education, race and ethnicity, immigration, and social inequality. As a trained sociologist, she looks forward to applying frameworks and theories rooted in sociology of race and ethnicity to medical education. Currently, she is working on a project that focuses on the identities of Latinx leaders that are involved with STEM pipeline programs to increase access and persistence among Latinx students. She has also contributed to numerous projects that center the role of family throughout student’s postsecondary experiences. In future research she will focus on undocumented Latinx young adults pursuing health professions to further understand how they navigate intersectional identities throughout their personal and professional lives.
