Sean is originally from Albany Park on the north side of Chicago but has lived all of his adult life south of Roosevelt. He attended University of Chicago as an undergraduate receiving a BA in anthropology. After graduating, he became involved in immigrant rights organizing with the Immigrant Youth Justice League and later Organized Communities Against Deportations. Then he spent a year in Guatemala as Fulbright Scholar doing medical anthropology research focused on how healthcare was conceptualized within indigenous political and cultural revitalization movements. He attended medical school at Rush University and he worked with undocumented organizers to help found the organization Salud Sin Papeles, dedicated to helping undocumented patients navigate the healthcare system. Later he helped found two groups focused on immigrant health that successfully advocated to change the medical school’s policies regarding admission of undocumented students and the revision of immigration warrants. He enjoy hanging out in his neighborhood, reading, going to see movies and visiting Mexico and Guatemala.
