I grew up in the northern suburbs with my parents, three dogs, two gerbils, a few snakes, and one brother. At Harvard, I majored in History of Science, researched the history of lung cancer advocacy, and was the captain of the rowing team. When not on the water, I sang a cappella and ran a study on which dining hall had the best grilled cheese.  In medical school at Cornell, I edited a cookbook for med students and wrote about how food access determines health. I spent a year in the highlands of Guatemala working with Wuqu’ Kawoq, which provides healthcare to non-Spanish-speaking, indigenous Mayans. I witnessed the difficulties that marginalized groups have in accessing care (and developed a mango skin allergy).   UIC was a no-brainer with its focus on social justice, caring for underserved communities, strong reproductive health, and FQHC clinic.  Outside of clinic, you’ll find me running, subjecting my partner Matt to a HIIT workout, crosswording, or trying to climb rocks.
