Belsey Manrique Garcia, MD
Resident – Family Medicine University of Illinois College of MedicineFamily Medicine ResidencyBiographical Info
I was born in Guatemala but moved to the US when I was 7 and grew up in the rural town of Calhoun, GA. I attended Mercer University for undergrad and then moved to Chicago for medical school at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. My love for medicine sprouted when I served as a Spanish interpreter during my mom’s doctor visits, and realized how important family physicians are to the wellbeing of the whole family dynamic. I then began to realize the health disparities among patient demographics and decided I wanted to be part of the change. I am so excited to be at UIC and to help make those changes for the wellbeing of all patients.
For fun, you can find me with my husband trying out a new restaurant, or with our baby, Chip – our one-year old Shih tzu-Yorkie mix!
