Dr. Albert Slepyan (pictured here, second from the right) was born in Wittenberg, Wisconsin in 1910. He received both of his BS and MD degrees from the University of Illinois. He has had a long and rewarding career in dermatology as an educator, clinician and researcher. His affiliation with the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois began in 1941 when he became a faculty member of the Department of Dermatology. He currently holds the rank of Clinical Professor Emeritus in the department.

Though he has retired from the practice of dermatology, he recalls many unusual and exotic cases from his years as a practicing dermatologist. One of his long-time interests has been gardening. He has an exquisite botanical garden and readily shares horticultural information and plant materials with others. His interest goes beyond the beauty of plants and to the interaction of plants and the skin.

His generous endowed fellowship in the Department of Dermatology at UIC entitled “Albert H. and Mary Jane Slepyan Fellowship Fund” has been directed to help support those research fellows who have an interest in the interaction of the skin with environmental agents such as plants, animals and minerals.
