Closer to UIC is best, but residents have lived in north side neighborhoods and tolerated the commute.
Lake View – Southport corridor
Kid and pet friendly
(closer to UIC)
(extremely close but not that popular)
Being close to the train is not vitally important. It does not run very reliably early in the am when we need to be at the hospital. Also, sometimes you finish late at night and it’s not always that safe. Having said that residents have gotten by without a car, but it takes significant effort.
With a car you will want easy parking where you live, you can get garage parking at the hospital (~$75/month)
