Katie Garland is a Senior Research Specialist at the Center for Research on Women and Gender. Katie received her Master of Public Health degree in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Maternal Child Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2016. She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Florida, where she wrote a thesis on evolutionary obstetrics. Her research interests include perinatal health, with a particular emphasis on intrapartum care, cesarean section reduction, and maternal mortality prevention. She also has research experience in understanding and preventing sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) and in adolescent sexual health. Katie is committed to community service and has volunteered for the Healthy Start Coalition of Hardee, Highlands, and Polk Counties in Florida and at the Birth Center at PCC in Berwyn, Illinois.
