Our Annual Conference, “Challenges in OB/GYN: Pearls for Practice”, held on October 25, 2019, was a big success!  Our Distinguished Faculty gave state-of-the-art lectures on complex reproductive and obstetrical patient care issues and cutting-edge research.

The Conference began with our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Keefe, the Stanley H. Kaplan Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University (NYU), who discussed the benefits and pitfalls of preimplantation genetic testing in IVF. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Mary Stephenson, the Theresa S. Falcon-Cullinan Professor and Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UIC, on “What’s New in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss”.

Dr. Keefe then presented an insightful lecture on “Medicine and Stress: What’s New”.

Dr. Humberto Scoccia, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at UIC gave the lecture, “What’s New in Ovulation Induction”. This was followed by a case-based interactive session with our three morning speakers.

In the afternoon, our Keynote Speaker was Dr. Jeanne Sheffield, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, who gave a lecture on emerging infections in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Irina Buhimschi, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of OB/GYN Research at UIC, gave the lecture, “Global Challenges in Reducing the Burden of Preeclampsia: Why One Size Can Not Fit All”.

Dr. Bethany Stetson, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University, and UIC alumni, gave the lecture, “Evidence Based Practice: What’s New in Labor and Delivery”. Then Dr. Catalin Buhimschi, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at UIC, gave the lecture, “Why Can Only Those Who Fail Succeed to Prevent Preterm Birth”.

The afternoon concluded with Dr. Monique Sutherland and Dr. Gian Diaz-Rodriguez, Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellows at UIC, challenging Dr. Sheffield, Dr. Stetson and Dr. Catalin Buhimschi with high-risk obstetrical cases.
