Our Annual Conference, “Challenges in OB/Gyn: Pearls for Practice”, held on October 26, 2018, was a resounding success!  Registrants heard from and interacted with national and international Distinguished Faculty who provided state-of-the-art lectures on patient care topics.

The Conference began with our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Erica Marsh, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University of Michigan, who discussed modern perspectives on and new medical management options for uterine fibroids. Her first lecture, “Modern Perspective on Uterine Fibroids”, was followed by a lecture by Dr. Humberto Scoccia, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UIC, “Impact of Uterine Fibroids on Infertility”. Dr. Marsh then presented her second lecture on “New Medical Management Options for Uterine Fibroids”.

Dr. Bruce Carr, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship Program at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center gave the lecture “Should Pre- and Post- Menopausal Women Be Treated With Androgens?”. Following, there was an interactive session with our Distinguished Speakers, moderated by Dr. Frank Gonzalez.

In the afternoon, another Keynote Lecture was delivered by Dr. Kimberly Kho, Associate Chief of Gynecology and Director of the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, “Where are we now? Current Controversies and Challenges in Surgical Management of Uterine Fibroids”. Dr. Matthew Niemeyer, Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology at UIC, gave his lecture “Use of MRI for Evaluation of Uterine Fibroids and Use of Uterine Artery Embolization”.

Dr. Kho then gave a second lecture on “Pearls and Pitfalls of Minimally Invasive Myomectomy and Hysterectomy”. Dr. Julie Vu, Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, gave her lecture on “Surgery on the Obese Patient”. To conclude the day, Dr. Sondra Summers moderated the second panel, which focused on uterine fibroid case studies. Panelists were Dr. Kho, Dr. Niemeyer, and Dr. Vu.
