Essentials of Clinical Practice and Professionalism 2 (1 Week Credit)

This mandatory, one-week course extends the current Essentials of Clinical Practice and Professionalism (ECP+P) course (M3 year) into the final year of medical school. ECP+P 2 is designed to prepare the graduating medical student for residency and will act as a bridge between medical school and residency. The goal of the course is to expose the medical student to general concepts that will provide the foundation for a more seamless transition from their M4 year to their intern year. The course will employ multiple types of didactic sessions including: small and large group discussion, standardized patient encounters, team based learning exercises, role playing and role modeling, online tutorials and modules. Laboratory Medicine (2 weeks credit)

Laboratory Medicine will help students understand the various purposes of laboratory tests, interpret laboratory tests based on test purpose and clinical context, appropriately order laboratory tests, and explore the scientific basis of laboratory medicine, therapeutic modalities available through the clinical laboratory (e.g. use of blood products or cell therapy), and cost-effective, evidence-based use of the treatments. Additionally, the course will help students recognize the limitations of their knowledge in laboratory medicine and know how to seek appropriate consultation from clinical pathologists or laboratory medicine professionals. Longitudinal Career Development (1 week credit)

The Longitudinal Career Development (LCD) course is a required M1 thru M4 year experience that assists medical students to develop the knowledge and skills to make a thoughtful and successful specialty choice. Over the four years, students will be introduced to a combination of small group activities (Team-Based Advising program), self-directed learning (Careers in Medicine modules), lectures and panel discussions, experiential activities such as shadowing, and additional optional activities the student will choose to meet the course requirements.
