135th Commencement Ceremony

UIC Pavilion at 525 Racine Avenue

Approximate Event Timing

1:00 p.m. Pavilion doors open for guest seating; there are no tickets & seating is unlimited;  Students must arrive NO LATER THAN 1:15 at the parking structure east of Pavilion;
2:00 p.m. Procession into the Pavilion begins the Ceremony. Ceremony lasts approximately  2 hours fifteen minutes.
4:00 p.m. (or thereafter) Reception in SSB (across street) for all guests until approximately 6:00.


Tickets are not needed for this event.


Free parking at the UIC Pavilion lots.

Seating is available for disabled/hearing impaired students, faculty and guests.
To make arrangements, please contact UIC Pavilion staff by phone at 413-5700 by May 1st.  On the event day, UIC staff will assist students or guests.  A sign language interpreter will be present on the stage for the benefit of students and guests who are hearing impaired.

Cap and Gown

MD graduate cap and gown size orders were taken with ERAS photos. Student Affairs has placed orders on its students' behalf using height data collected during their portrait sessions.  Pick up cap and gown at Medical Bookstore TBA - Mid-April. Bookstore hours: Monday and Thursday from 8:30am to 6:00pm and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Purchase price (TBD).  It will payable at pick-up (checks payable to UIC Bookstore).

MS and PhD graduates purchase regalia directly from the UIC Bookstore.

Faculty regalia is ordered through departments.


At the ceremony professional photographers will take individual pictures of each graduate as they are hooded on stage; more detail on availability TBA.

Family photography areas at the ceremony will be designated on the north and south sides of the platform. Pavilion staff will monitor these areas to ensure that each family member has the opportunity to take a photo of their graduate, please inform family members to move to designated areas just prior to the individual graduate's hooding and to return to their seats immediately thereafter. 


The Commencement Reception for all graduates, guests, faculty, and staff will begin immediately following the ceremony. The Reception will be held in the Student Services Building (SSB). SSB is located at 1200 W. Harrison Street, immediately adjacent to the Pavilion.
