AREAS OF INTERESTS
I am thrilled to be a part of the UIC family as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family medicine! I was born in Managua, Nicaragua, spent my early childhood years in Oaxaca, Mexico, before moving with my family to Oak Park, IL. I received my medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of medicine, and traveled to Ventura, California, for residency, and am happy to be back home in Chicago.
My interests lie in underserved populations and community medicine, with a focus on immigrant and women’s health. I strive to understand my patients from a holistic approach, including the affects of diet, stress, cultural traditions, family dynamics, and community environment on an individual’s health. Different experiences have taken me to many countries around the world, including Bolivia, New Zealand, and most recently South Sudan, where I worked in a refugee camp with Doctors Without Borders. In our ever emerging and interconnected world, I believe understanding global health and international perspectives is vital to providing good care in our local communities. I also value consistent health education and awareness, as well as multidisciplinary, team based care
