I started my working life as a chef in some of Chicago’s nicest restaurants. It was the disparity in access to care and quality of care that I saw amongst my undocumented immigrant co-workers that led me to pursue a second career in medicine. These experiences have led me to appreciate the struggles our patients face outside of the physician’s office when planning medical care.
I enjoy family medicine because I am able to take care of people throughout the life cycle during both times of illness and normal life changes. I particularly enjoy prenatal care and reproductive healthcare.
As a core faculty member, I precept residents in clinic and work with them on labor and delivery. I run a women’s health procedure clinic on Thursdays that the residents all rotate through. I supervise a resident run lecture series on common problems in family medicine and various lectures throughout the year.
