Pediatric Surgery - UICMC / CCH

PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM: Open to students who have completed the M3 Core Clerkships in Surgery and Pediatrics.

PURPOSE: Students will become acquainted with evaluation of pediatric surgical problems including hernias, undescended testicles, appendicitis, and congenital problems. Students will become acquainted with care of pediatric trauma patients. They will learn procedures such as suturing and will participate in all structured attending rounds as well as weekly pediatric surgery conferences.


INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: Students will participate with housestaff in all clinical activities including ward rounds, patient care, operating room, clinic and emergency room and trauma. 25-30 patients will be seen by the students weekly in both inpatient and clinic visits.
