Personal Interests and Accomplishments
In addition to his university activity, Dr. Schraufnagel is in the leadership group of the American Thoracic Society and will be its president in 2010. He is Vice President of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and has been on the board of directors of the American Lung Association and the International Tuberculosis Foundation.
Clinical Research
Dr. Schraufnagel's clinical research investigates scleroderma lung disease, pulmonary hypertension in sickle cell disease, and different aspects of bronchiectasis. His basic science research interests are in the structural changes that occur in the pulmonary vasculature in lung conditions.
