We offer a five-year residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. The Otolaryngology Training Program has four positions for each of the five years of training. Prior to entering the four years of otolaryngology residency, each resident completes one year of general surgery in the University of Illinois Department of Surgery. The general surgery year includes three months of otolaryngology training.
The faculty of the Department of Otolaryngology consists of full-time, part-time, and volunteer attendings. Each faculty member participates in the teaching of residents and medical students and in the delivery of patient care. The residents are assigned to the Eye and Ear Infirmary and the affiliated institutions: Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cook County Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hospital.
The Otolaryngology Residency Program is based at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, a building adjacent to the University Hospital and containing administrative offices, clinics, x-ray department, laboratory, pharmacy, speech pathology and audiology divisions, research laboratories, classrooms, and auditorium. All services and facilities of the medical center are readily accessible from the Infirmary's central location.
