Research in GI/Hepatology division
The broad focus of our research is to better understand digestive diseases for the development of new therapeutic approaches. Investigators in the division engage in a spectrum of research comprising pre-clinical, translational and clinical studies in gastrointestinal systems including pancreas, colon and liver. Included under this umbrella are understanding ion transport mechanisms in infection and inflammatory diarrhea; amelioration of inflammation through probiotics in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD); understanding dysregulation of growth signaling pathways in colon and pancreatic cancers; understanding the role of microbiome in the development of colorectal cancers and investigating the impact of decreased vitamin D signaling in colon cancers. In addition, we have initiated several disease registries to facilitate clinical research.
