The Section of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago is composed of physicians and scientists involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and study of patients with diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This includes the treatment of, and research into, diseases affecting the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, small and large intestine (colon), and rectum.

Dr. Vijay Khiani
Dr. Vijay Khiani joined the section of Digestive Disease and Nutrition as Medical Director of the Esophageal Program and as Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Khiani’s interests include Gastroesphogeal Reflux Disease, Barrett’s esophagus, Radiofrequency Ablation, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Achalasia, Esophageal Manometry, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Global Health. His clinical research interests include efficacy and safety of endoscopic management of Barrett’s (radiofrequency ablation, endoscopic mucosal resection, chemoprevention) and treatment of esophageal and general GI motility disorders.
On a personal level, Dr. Khiani has a passion to serve. He is the founder of a not-for-profit organization called New Life Volunteering Society, which helps to provide community service, education, and health care to those in need.
