UIC Department of Family Medicine Summer Externship
The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Illinois, at Chicago, College of Medicine offers an annual summer externship in Family Medicine. This externship is offered to two UIC Medical students in the month of July between his or her first and second year of medical school during which time the student will complete a 4 week rotation. The externship includes clinical exposure to outpatient and inpatient family medicine, including obstetrics. The students will, as well, gain community experiences by working with faculty, resident physicians, and third year medical students at various community sites. There is an opportunity for scholarly/ research activity, with a number of faculty in the department who are currently involved in a wide array of projects.
Students chosen for the externship will receive a $1,000 stipend. The department will also cover the student’s malpractice coverage for the rotation.
