The 2014-2015 First Year Residents
Monica Boen was raised in the great city of
Chicago. She completed her undergraduate degree in biology and
international studies at Northwestern University and also obtained her
medical degree at Northwestern University. Before starting her
dermatology residency, Monica completed an internship at the Cambridge
Health Alliance Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Monica is
interested in global health and has done global health rotations in
South Africa and France. In her spare time, Monica enjoys playing
volleyball and basketball.
Iona Chapman was born and raised in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. She received her B.A. from Barnard College with a major in
biology and a minor in dance. Iona then studied medicine at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Before beginning her
dermatology residency at UIC, she completed an intern year of internal
medicine at Loyola University. Iona is an avid fan of all things dance
and enjoys flyfishing, teaching Gyrokinesis, and cooking new dishes.
Kimberly Jerdan grew up in central Illinois in the
rural town of Mattoon. She completed her undergraduate degree at Duke
University, majoring in Spanish Studies, with minors in chemistry and
history. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Illinois
College of Medicine at Rockford. She completed her intern year at
Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago before beginning her
dermatology residency at UIC . Kimberly enjoys traveling,
eating (not cooking), shopping, playing basketball and tennis, yoga and
time spent with her family and friends.
Eden Pappo is a Chicago native from the northern suburbs. She
graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in International Comparative
Studies and Spanish Literature before entering medical school at the
University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her first year of
medicine at NorthShore University Health System before returning to the
University of Illinois for her dermatology residency. In her free time she loves to take part in
Chicago's food scene and lakefront, run and cook.
Leigh Stone was born in Dayton, Ohio. She attended Denison
University, after which she did research at the Center for Gene Therapy
at Nationwide Children's Hospital, taught 8th grade science in rural
Virginia, and taught English as a second language in Ho Chi Minh City,
Vietnam. Finally done adventuring, she decided to attend medical school
at The Ohio State University. She enjoys traveling, and was lucky enough
to meet her husband Sam on a trip to the UK. She completed her intern year at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio prior to starting her dermatology residency at UIC.
