"Thank you for visiting our website! I would like to share with you a few of the reasons why I would choose this residency program again in a heartbeat. From the clinical experience to the resident camaraderie you have read about from other resident testimonials, I truly believe our residency program is second to none in overall satisfaction and clinical competency in this great city of Chicago. As anesthesiologists, we are expected to be specialists in “perioperative medicine”, and that is exactly what our training program offers… and then some!
The world of modern medicine is changing all the time and our faculty has constant pulse on this change. We are always making modifications to ensure our experience is up-to-date and comprehensive. Some of our exciting new additions include new rotations in trauma/surgical ICU at an extremely busy local Level I trauma hospital and a cardiac/thoracic anesthesia rotation at the Hines VA hospital. These rotations add to our already robust in-house clinic service and allow us to see the world of anesthesia and related subspecialties outside of our own hospital. This makes our residents adaptable to any environment, academic or private. At the end of the day, our world-class teaching faculty ensures our residents are more than competent to handle the most complex cases anywhere. Some of our residents have even performed anesthesia in Ethiopia!
Our residents have been accepted into prestigious fellowships across the country in cardiac anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, critical care medicine, regional anesthesia, and pain medicine at places like Stanford University, Washington University, Duke University, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Our own program has the only regional anesthesia fellowship in Chicago!
I believe our intern year is second to none. We rotate through a variety of departments including general medicine wards, emergency medicine, general surgery, cardiology consult service and the neonatal ICU service. These experiences not only give us a wide breadth of experience prior to our CA-1 year, but it gives us a chance to interact with surgical and medical service residents throughout both the University of Illinois Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA Hospital. I know the majority of my surgical colleagues in the OR personally and am proud to call many of them my close friends. You can find our anesthesia residents in every corner of the hospital.
Finally, you cannot ignore the location of our wonderful residency program. We are minutes from some of the most world-renowned tourist attractions. Chicago has the best restaurants, night-life, theater shows, places to live, and lakefront. I personally find time to bike the entire lakefront trail a few times a week during the summer, and I cannot think of a better place to be. I’m happy to answer any questions you have, just e-mail!"
