University of Illinois at Chicago – University of Zurich Collaboration Awarded 1st Prize at the European Society for Regional Anesthesia Meeting

First Prize was awarded to the University of Illinois at Chicago – University of Zurich collaborative research team at the XXVIII Annual ESRA Congress held in Salzburg, Austria, September 9-12. The paper earned 1st Prize in the “Best Free Paper” category and was entitled:

Residents Place 3rd in ‘Jeopardy’ Tournament At Midwest Anesthesiology Conference

Here's a shout out to the UIC team of Dr. Alison Premo/Dr. Katharina Beckmann/Dr. Bryan Mullooly, who finished 3rd of 7 Chicago-area teams at this past weekend's Jeopardy tournament at the Midwest Anesthesiology Conference (MAC), held at Chicago’s Fairmont Hotel. Anesthesiology ‘Jeopardy’ is an annual event at the MAC, testing resident’s knowledge of the specialty in the manner of the popular TV game show. In the preliminary round, they defeated the Loyola and Rush anesthesiology teams, and then faced University of Chicago (2009 champion) and defending champion Illinois Masonic (2009 runner up) in the final round. Kudos to our residents for representing us well!

Two of our current CA-3 residents have secured fellowships at outside institutions for the coming academic year. Heather Nixon, MD will be an Obstetric Anesthesia fellow at Northwestern University here in Chicago. Current Chief Resident Katharina Beckmann, MD will be a Cardiothoracic Anesthesia fellow at Northwestern University. Congratulations Heather and Katharina!
Our 2010-2011 fellows here at UIC include Kadijah Ray, MD and Cindy Theleen, MD in Pediatric Anesthesia. Congratulations Kadijah and Cindy!
