Bud Pygon, M.D. Elected To Hospital Medical Staff Executive Committee

Dr. Bud Pygon was elected last evening as an At Large member of the Hospital Medical Staff Executive Committee. This is one of only two At Large positions that are up for election to the Committee. Congratulations to Bud.
The department is also well represented on several Medical Staff and Hospital Committees, with terms effective from November 1, 2008 through October 31, 2009. They include Charles Laurito, M.D. on the Committee on Practitioners’ Assistance; Tim McDonald, M.D. (chair), Charles Nyman, M.D., and David Schwartz, M.D. on the Medical Staff Review Board; Jim Feld, M.D. (chair), Julie Golembiewski, PharmD, Tim McDonald, M.D., and David Schwartz, M.D. on the Committee on the Operating Room; Bud Pygon, M.D. on the Transfusions Practices Committee; Barb Jericho, M.D. on the Committee on Pharmacy and Therapeutics; Effrossyni ‘Gina’ Votta-Velis, M.D. on the Committee on Medical Ethics; and Tim McDonald, M.D. (chair) on the Medical Center Safety Committee.
More 2009 Fellowships For Our Residents

Archana Apte, MD, a 2008 graduate of our program and current Pain Fellow at UIC, has secured a Regional Anesthesia Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for the 2009-2010 academic year. Additionally, Imran Akbar, MD, a current CA-3 resident in the training program, will start a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Rush University Medical Center here in Chicago. Congratulations to both of them.
Dr. Zakaria Messieha Keynote Speaker At Dental Research Meeting

Zakaria Messieha, DDS was the invited keynote speaker at the "Dental Anesthesiology Research Group", part of the International Association for Dental Research Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada on July 2nd, 2008. The title of Dr. Messieha’s presentation was Ambulatory and Office-Based Anesthesia: A Discussion of Current Research
The meeting was attended by representatives from several countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Korea, and Hong Kong.
